Interview + Cover

Drowned in Sound has posted this interview with Stephin Merritt, wherein he extrapolates about the new album perhaps more than he has in any interview thus far.  Most excitingly, he confirms that he is in the process of writing two musicals, though he is significantly more tight-lipped about said process than Daniel Handler was several weeks ago.

Kerthy Fix also shared this cover of "Absolutely Cuckoo" as performed by a string quartet.  Check it out!

  1. do we think this was an interview that was then transcripted for internet? i find it odd so many of his sentences end with an exclamation mark!

  2. Ha! Either the transcriber is particularly liberal with his usage of exclamation marks or Mr. Merritt was in a particularly chipper mood that day. One certainly seems more likely than the other, though.

  4. You can currently listen to short previews of the songs on iTunes. This album sounds pretty nice.

  5. I'm refusing to listen to a note that isn't "Andrew in Drag" until the record comes out. WHICH ISN'T THAT MUCH FUCKING LONGER.

  6. You're the devil, Alex Anderson. THE GODDAMN DEVIL.

Seriously, though, it's been a much easier venture to avoid hearing the record this time around than it was for "Realism," which proved nearly impossible what with preview songs being released and the album being streamed all over the place and the songs being played on those intro videos Nonesuch posted with Claudia and Stephin. I'm actually surprised the album hasn't been leaked or streamed yet.
