There were tons of reviews of The Magnetic Fields' show in Oakland, but apparently, no photo passes were handed out, which is quite frustrating as I wanted to see the band in action with Mr. Daniel Handler and Mr. Johnny Blood.  Anyhow, Plank Magazine, Spinning Platters, and A+E all loved the show, to no surprise.

The sneak preview of Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields was last night as well, and there is a review up at this blog.  The review is not the most detailed in the world, but it functions nice as the probably the largest chunk of information on the film available thus far.  Also, I stole the picture above from said blog.  If you were there, it'd be lovely of you to just leave a little review in the comments section.  <3

Not to mention this interview with Mr. Merritt from the Wisconsin Gazette.  In it, Mr. Merritt reveals the inspiration behind the title of the No-Synth Trilogy, recounts his Tom Lehrer story, and reveals his lack of drive to write a book.  Good times.

  1. Thanks for linking to our Magnetic fields review. We had a writer at the film last night, and a review will be up on the site later today. Also, we've been given photo passes for tonight's show, so expect there be to photos on our site this week.

  2. You're very welcome, Gordon, I'm glad to spread the word. And, thanks for the info about your upcoming reviews - I'll be sure to link to them once I come across them!

  3. I attended the movie screening. Went to the SF show last night and spoke with one of the directors of the film. I was going to do a write-up of some sort on my LJ and possibly cross-post to the Stephin Merritt LJ. If I do neither, I'll try to remember to return here.

  4. The review of the film is up here: http://bit.ly/c3w4XX

Expect a show review of Herbst later today. I'll be glad to provide the link when it's up. Also, we just got confirmation that we're going to be reviewing the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea event, which is super exciting!

  5. Joey, that'd be super great of you! I'll keep an eye on the SM LJ for sure.

And, thanks for the link, Gordon. Updating now, and I can't wait for the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea review.
